Welcome Message From Our Director General

            Dr. Randy Refsland

Dear Parents and Guests,

As the new Director General of Bayan School it is my pleasure to welcome you to our school’s website.  The Bayan School has a distinguished history and a tradition of excellence in education and academic and athletic extra-curricular activities.  We are justifiably proud of our students, staff and facilities, which we believe are some of the best in the Kingdom.

This fall we are very excited about a number of changes within our campus.  First is the addition of the new secondary building, the building will be completed shortly after the beginning of this school year.  The new science labs, including a robotics lab, will allow our science program to take a significant leap forward for the learning and teaching enhancement of our students and faculty.  Additionally, the administration building and Instructional Technology office have undergone renovation to better serve the needs of students, parents, and staff.

We also have a number of new teaching and administrative staff joining us for the 2016-2017 school year.  We have twelve new teachers, four at the primary level and eight at the secondary level.  We are also very pleased to have Dr. Andie Webb join Bayan School as the new Director of the Secondary School.  Dr. Webb brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position and she will be working alongside our secondary school principal and staff to enhance the quality of education in the secondary school.

Dr. Duckett, our Coordinator of Curriculum and Professional Learning, and his team of faculty leaders and principals are continuing their review of our curriculum and resources.  Our school is committed to maintaining a results driven focus on student performance as a product of a multitude of instructional, curricular, and professional development activities within the Bayan School workplace.  Attention to our standards based curriculum, differentiation of instruction, and assessment practices are again a central theme for the year.

The implementation phase of our 2015-2019 Strategic Plan is moving forward, and we are proud of our significant program growth at all levels and will be continuing that growth as we move onward.

Finally, as I mentioned previously, I am the new Director General replacing Dr. Nanos. Dr. Nanos left Bayan School in an excellent position and my objective is to work with all of our stakeholders to build on that solid foundation of success and continue to move Bayan School forward.  We want to continue to provide the best possible education for all of our students in preschool through high school.  I am looking forward to working closely with the Board of Directors, staff, parents, and students to continue the tradition of excellence at Bayan School.

I will briefly summarize my background so that you have an idea of my credentials and experience.  I have spent the past thirty-five years as an educator.  I obtained my Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in history and social studies from Bemidji State University, my Master of Science (MSE) degree in secondary education from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and my Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in educational leadership from Edgewood College.  I spent eighteen years as a teacher at the high school and college levels, teaching world history, U.S. history, psychology, law, sociology, and geography in addition to coaching American football, wrestling, and track and field.

I then spent nine years as a high school principal and then moved on to become a superintendent of schools which is very similar to the job of Director General here at Bayan School.  I spent seven years as a superintendent and an additional year in the middle of that time period working in China.  My year in China involved working for an education foundation as its Chief Academic Officer.  My seventeen years of administrative experience have been very rewarding and combined with my eighteen years as a teacher have reinforced to me how valuable and important a quality education is.

I am excited to be in Bahrain and Bayan School and I am looking forward to meeting and working with the Board of Directors, administrative team, staff, students, and parents here at Bayan School.  I am truly honored to have been chosen for this position and I can assure you that I will work tirelessly on behalf of this school and all of its stakeholders.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns or if you want additional information regarding our school.  My contact information can be found on the website.

Thank you for your interest in and continued support of Bayan School!

Sincerely,

Dr. Randy Refsland

Director General
